“Day of the Dead: a Passion for Life”
New Photo Exhibit Now on Display At San Jose's

WHAT: Exhibit of more than 50 images captured by accomplished local photographer Mary J. Andrade, that focus on various aspects of the celebration of the Day of the Dead, a pre-Hispanic tradition celebrating the lives and legacies of families and communities of the people who have died during the year. WHY: The Library offers a multitude of unique and interesting programs and activities providing opportunities for lifelong learning that are open to the public and free of charge. Opportunities to share and build understanding about cultural traditions play an important role in building community. The featured exhibit highlights a cultural tradition that is held dear and celebrated by many, both locally and abroad. The images are also contained in two of the photographer’s books held in the library’s collections—“Through the Eyes of the Soul, Day of the Dead in Mexico” and “Day of the Dead A Passion for Life.”—so visitors are able to request and check out copies for more leisurely study at home.
