“Festival of Life” & the “Circle of Remembrance”
Remembering our Precious Family & Friends Who are no Longer with Us.
Without question, 2008-09 has been a very difficult year. It has given us sad economic news, health burdens and sometimes personal loss.
But the XXXIII Annual “Festival de la Vida” is about the joy of living and of keeping alive the memories of our most precious family and friends who are no longer with us.
On Friday, October 23, Festival de la Vida will be presenting its 34th annual community All Souls’ Day – Día de Muertos Celebration for people of all ages at the Dr. Anthony Soto Theater, CET-701 Vine Street in San Jose.
This fun, lively, yet very profound performance event will begin with a 6:00 PM “Circle of Remembrance” ceremony under the stars.
People are encouraged to bring a photo to lovingly honor an ancestor, loved one, or friend who has passed away.
Participants will also have the opportunity to design a framed, Xerox image of their honorees to display for two more weeks on our regional Ofrendas from Michoacan, Mexico.
These Ofrendas will be integrated into the evening’s performance and later carried to the Biblioteca Latinoamericana library as part of their Día de Muertos public exhibit on South Market Street.
On Sunday, November 1st – the actual All Souls’ Day – these Ofrendas will be lovingly carried in San Jose’s Calendra procession through down town streets, ending to be displayed at the “Day of the Dead 2009” Festival at San Jose State University as part of the City’s celebration. The event is a 100% tax-deductible donation for CET/Immigration & Citizenship Program.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door and are available at CET/ICP or by calling 408 534-5283 or 636-6148. Circle of Remembrance starts at 6:00 PM and the Show starts at 7:00 PM. Traditional dinner is an optional $7.00 and available at 6:00 PM.

Hello, I saw from your blog your interest on Dia de Los Muertos and didn't know if you would be interested in a mini-documentary we've made about it. I work at Bartle Bogle Hegarty, the advertising agency for British Airways that made the film. Please feel free to feature it if you find it interesting and let us know your thoughts!
