Día de los Muertos Celebration
On October 30, 2010 Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in association with MACSA (Mexican American Community Services Agency), in San Jose, California, will be presenting the inaugural Día de Los Muertos celebration for both organizations. Catholic Cemeteries hopes that the Día de Los Muertos celebration at Calvary Catholic Cemetery will grow to be San Jose’s hallmark event for Day of the Dead celebrations annually.
Día de Los Muertos is one of Mexico’s traditional holidays reuniting and honoring beloved ancestors, family, and friends. It is an ancient ritual when the living commune with the dead – a mystical event when the veil is lifted between their two realms and they may share a day together. Día de Los Muertos is a time of celebration and a time to remember our deceased family and friends. Rather than to deny and fear death, this event teaches us to accept and contemplate the meaning of mortality and to celebrate life.
This celebration will include performances by local entertainers, altar displays and artwork created by local Jr. high and high school students, organizations and businesses, face painting, workshops, and much more. This event is free for the public and food vendors will be present to purchase food.
For more information about the event, or to participate as an artist, vendor, or sponsor please contact the cemetery at cemeteryinfo@dsj.org <mailto:cemeteryinfo@dsj.org> or 408-258-2940.
