Day of the Dead Service, Celebration and Art Show
The First Unitarian Church of San Jose will hold it's annual Day of the Dead Service and Celebration at 10:30 am Sunday, November 1, 2009. Bring a photo or token of a lost loved one to contribute to our beautiful Day of the Dead alter. The service will be in English, with simultaneous Spanish translation provided on our in-house headsets. Everyone is welcome! (www.sanjoseuu.org/)
After the service, join us for a traditional lunch of Tamales, and a Dia de los Muertos themed art show and sale by renowned local artists Carolann Espino (www.flickr.com/cehappyart) and Paul Gonzalez (www.paulJGonzalezArtStudios.com)
Carolann will present her wonderful, whimsical, collection of Day of the Dead art. She has exhibited throughout California and received great reviews from many including New York Times Best Selling Author, Isabele Allende, who owns some of Carolann’s artwork. Most recently Carolann was seen at the Jazz of Color Exhibit at South First Billiards, in downtown San Jose. Paul is a diverse artist. He is a painter responsible for many of the public outdoor murals you see around the South Bay, and also works in ceramics and mixed media. Come and enjoy their show. There will be art for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to the social action PACT committee at FUCSJ (www.pactsj.org).
